My mother who lives in Darien has also had alot of flooding problems and she has had no help from the Town of Darien but mostly her flooding problem was caused by the removal of many trees in the wetlands behind her house. We had an EPC meeting mid January and we were suppose to hear back from the town in 6-8 weeks and have heard nothing yet. Your flooding is unbelievable and we are so sorry that this has happened to you and your family and the lack of support from any officials from the town. My mom’s name is Helga Trohan, Also, she is planning to be at the meeting tonight at 7pm. Good luck!!!

    APRIL 15, 2007

I can only hope (pray) this is the historic day that everyone remembers. April 15th 2007 remembered as “the big one” the long standing record of the high water mark. The previous recent record day held fast just 44 days. As the sun rises today and people return to their homes still under reconstruction there will be more water on the floor in the form of tears. Rarely do I pray but now is a good time to pray for those neighbors forced from their homes to have the strength and support from family, friends and neighbors.

I am Chris Noe, I live at 242 Old Kings Highway South. The conditions were much worse compared to March 2nd. The raging water pushing two feet high against the back of my garage. It makes me wonder at what point will it wash away. The way things are going I would say next time.

The bridge at Old Kings Highway proved too small once again. The water flowing over the top of the road one foot deep just east of the bridge at a low point. There was a small stone wall that blocked the raging over bank current, emphisis on “was.”

I have enjoyed living on Stony Brook for 20 years. It’s a magical spot where fresh water meets salt. The abundance of beautiful fresh and salt water birds. The animals come to drink as it is the first place to get fresh water near the coast, just magnificent. Not one moment overlooked or taken for granted. With the opportunity to be within 30 feet of birds who normally fly off within 100 yards of a human. If I had a dog I would have half the wildlife, I choose the endless wildlife.

    WE NEED SOLUTIONS QUICKLY.

    1. I hope the town is able to get their regulating heads out of their asses and allow home owners to remove sand from the brook as it is man-made garbage just like bottles and cans. They should only ask for a letter stating how much was removed, when, where and that is all.

    2. The waterline on any building is the new law. Home owners should be allowed to raise any building with a waterline 12 inches above that line without a permit. Next time these buildings might not be there so we all need to work fast. This is a matter of public safety and for the overall good of the commumity while maintaining the tax base, taxes are paid on these buildings.

The flood waters had a large amount of building material. It seems from what I saw there are buildings that did not survive the storm.

    Sincerely,
    Chris Noe
